Ahmedabad: Students of Nirma University staged a ‘Black Day’ protest near the Law Building on Thursday, expressing concerns over the safety and security arrangements at the university’s girls’ hostels.The protest was triggered by the circulation of a video allegedly linked to the H-5 hostel building. Students claimed the video contained allegations of inappropriate conduct by a security guard while observing female students, sparking concerns about the safety of women living in the hostels.Dressed in black, students gathered near the Law Building and demanded accountability from the university administration. They sought a written response from the authorities, a fair and impartial investigation into the incident, and appropriate action based on the findings.The controversy has also drawn attention to security arrangements at the H-4 hostel, where female students reside. Protesters said the administration must ensure that security personnel deployed around hostel premises adhere to prescribed rules and maintain professional conduct.The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has called for an immediate and unbiased probe into the matter. The student body also demanded a comprehensive review of security measures across the university’s hostels.NSUI representatives said any negligence or violation of norms related to student safety should be dealt with strictly following a proper inquiry. They stressed that the safety of hostel residents must remain a top priority for the university administration.Students have also sought transparency in the investigation and clarity on the steps being taken by the university. They said concerns regarding hostel security must be addressed promptly to ensure a safe environment on campus.
