Ahmedabad businessman gets death threat from Dubai over son-in-law’s debt

Ahmedabad: Pay your son-in-law’s dues or your family will be killed: This was the threat a 52-year-old textile manufacturer allegedly received from a caller claiming to be a gangster based in Dubai.The complainant, who runs a textile manufacturing unit in Behrampura, lives with his wife, daughter and son in Juhapura.He told Vejalpur police that two men, who identified themselves as Musa and Shanu, arrived at his home around 3.30pm on Aug 3. They claimed to be based near Royal Akbar Tower and said they had to recover the principal and interest on money owed by his son-in-law.The men allegedly said the son-in-law had been avoiding them and demanded that the businessman clear the dues on his behalf. The 52-year-old refused, telling them that their financial dealings were with the son-in-law and that he would not pay them.According to the complaint, the men then abused the businessman and asked for his mobile number. One of them placed a missed call to his phone and, before leaving, warned him of dire consequences if the dues were not cleared.Around 10.30pm that day, the 52-year-old received WhatsApp calls from two different numbers. The caller allegedly identified himself as Atik Mandli and claimed to be calling from Dubai.Mandli purportedly referred to the earlier visit by Musa and Shanu and questioned why the businessman had refused to pay. He then allegedly threatened to kill him and his entire family unless the son-in-law’s dues were cleared.
