After protests over teachers & toilets, Gzb to inspect schools

Ghaziabad: Amid student protests in several districts of Uttar Pradesh over govt school infrastructure, the Ghaziabad administration has formed a three-member team to inspect schools. The team, comprising a block education officer, block development officer and an engineer, will assess infrastructure, basic facilities and other arrangements in schools across the district.DM Ravinder Mander told TOI, “The officials will inspect schools, speak to students and submit a detailed report after completing the survey. Deficiencies found during the inspection would be addressed and necessary corrective measures taken.”The district magistrate will monitor Chief Minister Abhyudaya classes conducted at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Nidori and Bhagirath School in Sanjaynagar through CCTV cameras. “The social welfare officer has been directed to ensure that necessary facilities are available for students attending the Abhyudaya classes, where free coaching is provided for competitive examinations, including the UPSC,” the DM added.The administration will also review the progress of Kayakalp projects that aim at improving basic infrastructure in govt schools across the district.Meanwhile, minister of state for disabled welfare and empowerment Narendra Kashyap held a meeting with department officials on Thursday and directed them to closely monitor schools and universities across the state.TOI had earlier reported that several schools in the district have been facing shortages of classrooms, toilets, drinking water facilities and playgrounds. There is also a major shortage of teachers, particularly in schools located in urban areas of the district.Over the past month, students in Lucknow, Unnao, Hamirpur and Kannauj have staged protests seeking more teachers, better food, drinking water and better infrastructure.
