After Canacona, Dharbandora crosses 1,000mm mark

Panaji: Dharbandora has become the second rain gauge station in Goa to cross the 1,000mm mark this monsoon, joining Canacona, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds across the state until July 9.Dharbandora received 78.2mm of rain in the last 24 hours, taking its seasonal total to 1,002.6mm. Canacona continues to lead with 1,224.2mm after recording 15.8 mm, while Margao is close to the milestone with 988.8mm of cumulative rainfall.Goa recorded 32mm of rain on Monday against the normal 28.7mm for July 6, an 11.7% surplus for the day. However, the monsoon remains below normal overall. Between June 1 and July 6, the state received 844.9mm of rainfall against the seasonal normal of 1,126.7mm, a deficit of 25%.The IMD has warned of heavy rain and gusty winds of up to 60kmph at isolated places over North and South Goa through July 9. Residents and tourists have been advised to exercise caution, especially in low-lying areas and along the coast, while fishermen have been urged to follow official weather advisories before venturing into the sea.
