Kolkata: Brace for more rain between Tuesday and Thursday as the three synoptic conditions become more favourable for enhanced rain activity in Kolkata and its surrounding along with other south Bengal districts. Met officials said that the city will continue to get one of two spells of rain on Monday too.Alipore recorded 32.6 mm of rain between 5.30 pm of Saturday and 5.30 pm on Sunday. The spells of rain along with a cloud cover pushed the mercury below 30 degrees on Sunday after a gap of eight days. At 29.2 degrees it was 3.6 notched below the normal mark. With partly cloudy sky with one to two spells of rain expected the Met officials said the mercury will continue to remain below normal for now.According to an IMD special bulletin the monsoon trough paased right over Gangetic West Bengal at present. In addition there is an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Jharkhand and adjoining Bihar and an upper air trough from North Bihar to Northwest Bay of Bengal across Jharkhand and Gangetic west Bengal. Downpour brought by these three systems are currently battering North Bengal while parts of south Bengal is encountering light to moderate rain.“These synoptic conditions will become more favourable for enhanced rainfall activity for south Bengal from Tuesday onwards. Therefore we can expect higher rain amount in places including Kolkata between Tuesday and Thursday with the possibility of isolated heavy rain some coastal districts,” said meteorologist Anwesa Bhattacharya of Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata.This July the city has encountered some amount of rain almost every day with the 24-hour rain amount ranging between 47 to light drizzle. Due to the frequent rain amount the day temperature has remained below normal on 14 days out of the 19 days. The city has already clocked close to 170 mm of rain during the first 19 days. With more showers in store the Met office expects July rain count for the city to be around the normal mark or a little above normal.
