After 56-day protest, LU retracts expulsion of 3 students

Lucknow: Following recommendations from the proctorial board, the proctor and dean of student welfare, the expulsion of three students of Lucknow University was withdrawn on Tuesday. The decision comes after a 56-day sit-in protest by the students against their expulsion over alleged misconduct with vice-chancellor and submission of an undertaking regretting their behaviour.The order, issued following the enquiry committee report submitted on Aug 4, said the expulsion of Prem Prakash Yadav (MA Hindi), Shashi Prakash alias Prince Prakash and Harshit Shukla (LLB 3rd year) was withdrawn considering their future and the special circumstances.The decision has been made subject to the students submitting an affidavit on a prescribed Rs 100 non-judicial stamp paper and an undertaking to abide by university rules and ordinances.“We welcome the university’s decision to withdraw our expulsion,” said MA Public Administration first-year student, Prince Prakash.The order stated that the decision was taken in compliance with the directions of the vice-chancellor and after considering the recommendations of the university authorities and the inquiry committee.
