Bengaluru: After around two years of waiting, the residents of Rudrappa Layout, off Andrahalli Main Road near Peenya, are heaving a sigh of relief as work has begun on asphalting a 1.5km stretch of road in the residential enclave. The woes of these residents had gone viral after Dhananjaya Bhandarkar, an engineer-entrepreneur, posted a video of him running on uneven roads on Instagram, tagging leaders including Bengaluru Development minister Krishna Byre Gowda to attract the attention of the authorities. For over two years, the roads were in bad condition after they were dug up for the Cauvery project.TOI had highlighted the issue in July. But on Friday, residents were overjoyed as cranes arrived on the road in the morning. “As I was getting ready to leave for work, I saw the debris was being cleaned off the road, and we were informed that asphalting work would begin after the clearance. They said they were carrying out the work under the instructions of Yeshwantpur MLA ST Somashekar. We are also thankful to TOI for bringing our woes to the spotlight,” Dhananjaya said.Rudrappa Layout was developed about 10 years ago and homes were built six to seven years ago.
