Times News NetworkMohali: A local court has denied bail to Rohit Kumar, one of the accused in the kidnapping and murder of 23‑year‑old Mithali, whose body was recovered from the fields near Banur earlier this year.Rohit, 20, a resident of Banur, had sought regular bail after being named by Zirakpur police in the case. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court dismissed his plea, citing the gravity of the allegations. In its order, the court observed that the charges were serious and releasing the accused at this stage could hamper the investigation or trial. It also noted the possibility of witness intimidation, rejecting the bail application on these grounds.According to the police, complainant Sohan Lal alleged that his daughter Mithali was abducted in a car by Sultan Mohammad and his associates. During the probe, Amandeep and Rohit Kumar, both from Banur, were also named as accused. Investigators said Mithali was murdered after the abduction and her body dumped in agricultural fields, sparking concern in the area.A total of four persons have been named in the case. Police said the investigation is ongoing to establish the sequence of events and the role of each accused.Mithali, a resident of Badal Colony, was abducted on March 7, 2025. Her body was found wrapped in tarpaulin along the Banur‑Rajpura road on March 10, bearing multiple injury marks. A postmortem at Rajpura civil hospital ruled out sexual assault but confirmed severe injuries leading to organ damage.Police later arrested Rohit Kumar and recovered the vehicle allegedly used in the crime. The victim was employed in a night shift at a private firm in Panchkula’s IT Park while also pursuing her studies.
