Jaipur/Jhunjhunu: Four UP policemen were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Sikar Tuesday after being allegedly caught red handed while accepting a Rs 2.8 lakh bribe to remove a local man’s name from a case filed in the Cyber Crime police station in Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh.Sources in the ACB said the four policemen – a sub-inspector and three constables – had travelled to Sikar to collect the bribe and were apprehended in a sting operation right after they had taken possession of the money.A senior ACB official said the complainant in the case approached the agency to report that his brother had been named as accused in an FIR filed in Ayodhya in 2024. The complainant alleged that UP police were now demanding money to remove his brother’s name from the case. The ACB discreetly verified the complaint Monday, during which it was established that a UP police constable was demanding Rs 4 lakh from the complainant’s brother. The amount was subsequently negotiated down to Rs 2.8 lakh, after which the ACB laid a trap to nab the errant policemen. An ACB team led by senior officers swooped in to nab the four policemen as soon as one of them had pocketed the bribe money. The agency said a case against the four accused policemen will be filed under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigations are underway to determine if any others were involved in the case. The arrested policemen have been identified as sub-inspector Yashwant Singh and constables Pawan Tripathi, Sohanlal and Gaurav Charag.
