AAP protests in support of Wangchuk, seeks education minister’s resignation

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Thursday staged a protest at Valmiki Temple in Sector 25 in support of environmentalist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk.Party leaders said AAP stood firmly with Wangchuk and would continue raising issues concerning the future of the country’s youth. They demanded the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and said accountability must be fixed. The party also vowed to continue its democratic and peaceful agitation until appropriate action is taken.AAP Chandigarh general secretary Omkar Singh Aulakh questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi had not sought Pradhan’s resignation if the Centre was genuinely concerned about students’ future. Alleging that the govt was avoiding accountability despite repeated controversies surrounding the education system, he demanded an impartial investigation into the matter and urged the Centre to address the concerns of the country’s youth.Party leaders also condemned the alleged use of force, including lathi-charge and tear gas, against students and youth protesting at Jantar Mantar. They said peaceful demonstrations should not be met with coercive action and called for a fair hearing of the protesters’ demands.
