Gurgaon: Light rain and cloudy conditions brought relief from the humid weather in the city on Thursday, pulling the maximum temperature down to 30°C, nearly 8°C below normal. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity across Haryana over the next few days.The showers brought a sharp drop in temperatures. IMD’s Sohna Road observatory recorded the city’s maximum temperature at 30°C, 7.9°C below normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 22.7°C, 4.2°C below the previous day.Rainfall remained uneven across the district during the 24-hour period ending at 8am. Wazirabad recorded the highest rainfall at 9mm, followed by Manesar (5mm). Gurgaon, Kadipur and Harsaru received 3mm each, Badshahpur recorded 2mm, while Pataudi and Farrukhnagar received 1mm each. Sohna did not receive any rainfall.Across Haryana, the average minimum temperature fell by 4.5°C compared with the previous day and remained 3.7°C below normal. Narnaul recorded the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 18°C.The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Haryana, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50kmph, gusting up to 60kmph, at some places. The department has forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places across the state from July 2 to July 7, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated locations during the period.An IMD official said, “Conditions remain favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon over adjoining parts of northwest India. A low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coasts is likely to keep the monsoon active over central India during the next five days, supporting continued rainfall activity over northwestern parts of the country, including Haryana.”
