Silchar: A man and his daughter were arrested after Cachar police seized heroin and banned psychotropic tablets concealed inside a scooter during a raid at Banskandi under Lakhipur police station in the early hours of Monday.The operation was carried out based on inputs about alleged drug trafficking activities at the residence of Samsur Uddin Laskar in Alipur Basti under the Banskandi police outpost.During the search, officers inspected a scooter parked on the premises and recovered 200 small vials containing around 5.5g of suspected heroin from a hidden compartment. Police also seized 313 banned psychotropic tablets from the vehicle.The occupants of the house, identified as Samsur and his daughter Robina Begum, were arrested on charges of possessing and trafficking narcotic substances.Investigators are probing the origin of the seized drugs and trying to establish whether the accused were linked to a wider drug trafficking network operating in the region.The latest seizure comes amid an intensified anti-narcotics drive in Cachar district, where police have made a series of major drug busts in recent days.
