Retaining wall to curb landslide risk in Vathadev bypass

Bicholim: PWD has undertaken the construction of a retaining wall along the Vathadev-Vhalshim bypass road to prevent landslides and ensure the safety of motorists during the monsoon. The hillside along this stretch had become a concern, with large boulders reportedly tilting towards the road. The unstable hillock poses a potential landslide threat to commuters, especially during heavy rainfall. After residents raised concerns, the authorities initiated remedial measures to stabilise the vulnerable stretch and prevent debris and boulders from sliding onto the road.“The debris from the hillock and huge boulders were in a dangerous position, posing a risk of landslides. Locals urged the authorities concerned to take corrective measures to prevent any untoward incident. It is reassuring that the national highways authorities have taken cognisance of the issue and initiated the necessary work,” said resident Namdev Gaonkar. An official said the stretch would be safer for motorists once the retaining wall is completed.
