LUCKNOW: Prominent Islamic scholar, author and educator Maulana Syed Salman Husaini Nadwi passed away in Lucknow in the early hours of Monday at the age of 73.According to his family, Maulana Nadwi had been in stable health for most of his life, although he had undergone a pacemaker implantation around six to seven months ago. Speaking to TOI, his son, Yusuf Husaini, said he passed away between 2.30 am and 3 am after a brief illness.Born in Lucknow in 1954, Maulana Nadwi belonged to a family of Islamic scholars. He received his early education at Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, before pursuing higher studies in Islamic theology and Shariah. He later completed master’s degrees in Hadith from Nadwatul Ulama and Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Saudi Arabia.After returning to India, he joined Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama as a faculty member and later served as Dean of its faculty of Dawah and Shariah. During his academic career, he taught Islamic studies and mentored students from India and other countries.Maulana Nadwi wrote several books and research works in Arabic and Urdu on Islamic theology, Hadith, history and contemporary issues. He also served as the President of Jamiat Shabab-ul-Islam, an organisation founded to engage Muslim youth in educational and social activities. In addition, he was associated with the establishment of educational institutions in different parts of the country.His funeral prayers will be held on Monday evening at around 5 pm, followed by his burial at an educational institute campus in Malihabad near Lucknow. “The burial will take place there in accordance with my father’s wish,” said Yusuf Husaini.Speaking about his father’s legacy, Yusuf said, “My father consistently encouraged people to serve humanity and help those in need. This was the principle my father followed throughout his life and continued to emphasise in his teachings.”
