Jakhar wants assurances from MLAs on Akal Takht edict against CM

Chandigarh: Addressing the MLAs summoned in connection with the sacrilege legislation, former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Sunday said they should not only present their views on the law before the Akal Takht, “but also respect the hukamnama (edict) which holds the chief minister responsible for offending the Guru, and assure the Takht that appropriate action would be taken”.In a post on X, Jakhar stated, “If the MLAs believe the chief minister is innocent, they should be prepared to affirm before the Akal Takht that the CM does not appear in the alleged sacrilege-related video.”They should also affirm “the officials who allegedly travelled to Gurgaon to procure a fake forensic report did not misuse govt machinery and were not attempting to mislead the Akal Takht”, he said. Jakhar further stated that the legislators should also uphold “the news conference conducted by Harpal Cheema and Aman Arora, based on the alleged forged forensic reports, did not constitute disrespect toward the Akal Takht”. “They (MLAs) should clearly state what stand they would take if the chief minister were to confront the Akal Takht in an effort to retain his office,” the senior BJP functionary added.Jakhar further posted, “If the CM possessed convincing evidence of his innocence and chose not to challenge the Akal Takht, he would have appeared personally before the Takht as a humble Sikh.”“The legislators now face a clear choice between remaining loyal to their Guru or standing with an arrogant leader who has challenged the Akal Takht,” he added.MSID:: 132055007 413 |
