Aizawl: The number of voters in Mizoram has come down to 8,28,877 from 8,75,068 in the 2025 electoral rolls after finalisation of enumeration forms during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), state election officials said on Sunday.Sunday was the deadline set by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for distribution, collection and digitisation of enumeration forms in the third phase of the SIR, which began on May 30. Officials said the updated electorate is 5.28% lower than the 2025 electoral rolls. The officials said 46,191 enumeration forms were uncollectable for various reasons, including 312 electors who refused to enrol due to their religious beliefs or other reasons. They said the primary religious concern cited for not wanting to include their names in the voters’ lists was fear of being marked with the biblical “number of the beast.”The officials said 21,290 people listed in the 2025 electoral rolls were found to be dead, 13,992 electors had permanently shifted, and 8,352 voters were declared untraceable. Mizoram is the first among 16 states and three Union Territories in the third phase of the SIR to complete digitisation of enumeration forms as directed by the ECI, officials said. The office of the chief electoral officer has also finalised rationalisation of polling stations, which has been approved by the central poll panel. The ECI has set June 28 for the exercise.
