Four juveniles among seven held for murder of history-sheeter

Chennai: A 21-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death by a six-member gang that stormed into his house in Kodungaiyur on Friday night. A woman who attempted to stop the attack also suffered injuries. Police detained seven suspects, including four juveniles, for questioning as part of the investigation.The deceased was identified as Arun alias Bangaru Arun, of Kodungaiyur. Police said he was a ‘C’ category history-sheeter with 11 criminal cases pending against him. He had shifted from Tondiarpet to Kodungaiyur about a year ago after developing multiple rivalries in his native area.According to police, the incident occurred around 9pm when Arun was speaking with his girlfriend, Dharshini, at his house. More than six men arrived on four motorcycles, forced their way into the house and attacked him repeatedly with sickles before fleeing.Dharshini tried to intervene but suffered injuries during the assault.Neighbours alerted the police control room, following which Kodungaiyur police rushed to the spot and shifted Arun and Dharshini to Stanley Govt Hospital in an ambulance. Doctors declared Arun dead on arrival.Preliminary investigation revealed that Arun frequently picked quarrels with people in the RK Nagar area, where police opened a history sheet against him. Investigators suspect the murder was linked to previous enmity. Police said Satishkumar, a rival who is lodged in Puzhal Central Prison in another case, assigned his associates to eliminate Arun in retaliation.The Kodungaiyur police registered a murder case and detained seven suspects, including four juveniles, for questioning. Further investigation is under way.
