Pune: The Deccan Gymkhana police on Sunday booked a former salesman (28) of a garment shop for stealing women’s garments worth Rs 40,000 from the shop on FC Road around 3am on Friday.He then set up a stall in front of the shop to sell the stolen garments. The woman shopowner (38) of Lullanagar lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday morning. The Deccan Gymkhana police detained the former employee and served him a notice.Senior inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan Gymkhana police told TOI, “The salesman used to work in the shop. He left the job in Jan after some disputes with the owner. However, he had an extra key of the shop which he did not return to the owner.”“On Friday afternoon, when the owner reached the shop, she found some of the women’s tops and other garments missing. She then scanned the entire shop, but she failed to locate the garments. Later, she went out and found her former salesman selling garments in front of her shop. He had similar clothes which were missing,” Nimbalkar said.“Our team checked the CCTV footage of the spot. It was found that the former salesman had opened the shop around 3am on Friday with the extra keys. He was also seen walking out of the shop with the garments,” Nimbalkar said.“We detained him and recovered the stolen garments,” she said. When asked why he started selling the stolen garments in front of the shop, Nimbalkar said, “The area provided a good opportunity for such business. He was confident enough that the theft would go unrecognized.”
