Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has initiated efforts towards establishing a dedicated fire station on its campus to strengthen emergency response and fire safety infrastructure. As part of the process, the chief fire officer (CFO) of Varanasi and the fire officer of Bhelupur visited the university on Wednesday and held discussions with university authorities regarding the proposal.University officials clarified that the project is currently at the proposal stage and no site has been finalized nor has any formal construction or administrative process begun. However, the move reflects a shared commitment between BHU and the Fire Department to improve emergency preparedness in the area.BHU Vice-Chancellor Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi said the university administration is actively considering the proposal in view of the increasing incidence of fire-related emergencies. He said the estate department has been asked to identify suitable land within the campus for the proposed facility. He noted that once established, the fire station would significantly reduce emergency response time and enhance safety not only for students, faculty and staff within the university but also for residents of south Varanasi. The university administration and the Varanasi Fire Department are expected to work jointly on the next steps, including site identification, departmental coordination and necessary statutory approvals for the project.
