Gorakhpur: Patients of critical illnesses in eastern UP will soon have access to advanced life-saving treatment closer to home, with a 50-bed Critical Care Hospital Block at the BRD Medical College nearing completion.Being constructed under the Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, the facility is being developed at a cost of Rs 18.69 crore. Officials said over 92% of the work is completed while finishing work is underway.The ground-plus-two-storey block is expected to significantly strengthen emergency and critical care services in the region. Equipped with modern medical infrastructure and advanced equipment, the facility will cater to patients requiring intensive care, ventilator support and emergency interventions.According to officials of UP Rajkiya Nirman Nigam, the executing agency, the project is in its final phase and is likely to becompleted soon.BRD Medical College serves as a major referral centre for patients from Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar and Siddharthnagar districts, besides adjoining areas of Bihar and Nepal. The new critical care block is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel to metropolitan cities for specialised treatment.Officials said the facility would prove crucial for critically ill patients and accident victims, particularly during the “golden hour” when timely medical intervention can save lives. The project is also expected to reduce the financial burden on patients and their families while strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the Purvanchal region.
