Varanasi: Varanasi Range DIG Vaibhav Krishna on Wednesday suspended five police personnel, including a sub-inspector, three head constables, and a computer operator, for alleged negligence in handling a robbery case under Jalalpur police station in Jaunpur district.The action followed a complaint made on Tuesday by Akash Seth, a resident of Shakarmandi under Kotwali police station limits.Seth informed the DIG that on his CUG number he had been contacted from an unknown mobile number and lured with an offer to buy gold at a discounted price.Acting on the offer, Seth said he went to Ijari village under Jalalpur police station with his friend, Saurabh Pratap, carrying Rs 3 lakh in cash.However, upon reaching the location, four men identified as Ajay Singh alias Pintu, Shubham Singh, Indrajeet Saroj, and Vishal Singh allegedly assaulted him, robbed him of the cash, threatened to kill him, and forced him to leave the spot.After receiving the complaint, the DIG directed Jalalpur police to verify the allegations and initiate legal action.Feedback received from the range control room revealed that the investigating sub-inspector failed to register a case on time and did not take effective action against the accused.On the DIG’s directions, the superintendent of police, Jaunpur, conducted a detailed inquiry, which found the allegations to be prima facie true.Following the inquiry, an FIR was registered on Wednesday at Jalalpur police station under Sections 309(4), 115(2), 352, and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Police arrested three accused, Ajay Singh (51), Shubham Singh (28), and Indrajeet Saroj (56). The fourth accused, Vishal Singh, is absconding, police said. The robbed cash and the victim’s car were also recovered.The inquiry further found that the accused had criminal antecedents and were allegedly involved in similar incidents in the past. Taking serious note of the negligence in handling the case, the DIG ordered the immediate suspension of the five police personnel.
