Varanasi: A 10-year-old boy allegedly drowned in a rainwater-filled pit at an underconstruction house in Shivpur area of Varanasi on Wednesday.Ashu, son of mason Abhay Patel, had gone to bathe at a village tubewell in the morning. When he did not return home, his family became worried and started searching for him.Around 1pm, they found Ashu’s shorts and vest near the tubewell. The family and villagers then intensified the search. CCTV footage from a nearby house showed the boy walking towards an underconstruction house.The foundation of the house had been dug using a JCB machine, and due to rainfall, the pit was filled with water. The villagers started searching the pit. Two youths entered the water and found Ashu’s body in the pit.Police have sent the body for postmortem.
