Mumbai: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 132 containers with over 3,000 metric tonnes of misdeclared goods valued at approximately Rs 139 crore at Nhava Sheva port.DRI intercepted consignments falsely declared as ‘Toor Dal/Pigeon Peas’. However, detailed examination revealed the cargo actually comprised 2,710 metric tonnes of watermelon seeds sourced from Tanzania and Sudan, along with 319 metric tonnes of green peas imported from Canada.Officials stated that the imports violated govt restrictions imposed to protect domestic farmers. Import of melon seeds has been restricted since June 2024, while green peas imports are regulated under DGFT norms, including a minimum import price and limited port entry.DRI has arrested Pareshkumar Raitthatha from Gujarat, director of R.D. International.
