MUMBAI: A dispute over closing the door of a crowded local train during heavy rain allegedly led to a 22-year-old passenger being stabbed inside a moving Western Railway train between Andheri and Borivali late on Tuesday night.The victim, identified as Mayank Lohar, was travelling in the first-class compartment of the Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local when he got into an argument with another passenger between Andheri and Borivali stations.During the altercation, the accused allegedly stabbed Lohar in the abdomen, leaving him seriously injured.The train reached Borivali station at 11. 04pm, where the accused fled before it came to a complete halt. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel reached the coach within three minutes of the train’s arrival and attended to the injured passenger.A stretcher, porter and medical team were mobilised immediately and Lohar was evacuated from the coach. He was shifted to the Emergency Medical Room (EMR) at Borivali station, where he was examined by a doctor.Following medical advice, he was transferred by ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali at 11. 42pm and reached the hospital 10 minutes later. GRP and RPF personnel accompanied him during the transit.“Western Railway staff responded immediately after the train arrived at Borivali station. RPF and GRP personnel reached the coach within minutes, while medical assistance and evacuation support were mobilised without delay. The injured passenger was shifted to the Emergency Medical Room for urgent treatment and, on the doctor’s advice, was promptly transferred to Shatabdi Hospital by ambulance,” said Vineet Abhishek, chief public relations officer, Western Railway.He added, “Senior officers continuously monitored the situation through the night. CCTV footage and other evidence were secured and handed over to the investigating agencies. Our priority was to ensure that the injured passenger received the fastest possible medical assistance.”The GRP has launched a search for the accused, who remains absconding. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and recording statements of passengers who were present in the coach at the time of the incident.
