Hisar: Fatehabad Police on Wednesday took five accused in the Jhalania murder case through the village to retrace the sequence of events and identify locations linked to the killing, days after the murder and a purported social media threat triggered fear among residents.The accused were taken to spots where they allegedly assembled before the attack and to the place where 40-year-old tile mason Mahendra was allegedly killed on Aug 24 while returning home on his motorcycle.Police said the exercise was part of the investigation and followed a purported social media video posted after the murder by accused Ramu, in which he allegedly claimed responsibility and threatened those who testified. The video, showing several other youths, had created fear among villagers.Mahendra was allegedly attacked with sticks and sharp-edged weapons and died at the spot. On the complaint of his brother Budhram, Sadar police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.The complaint cited an earlier Holi dispute between Mahendra and Devender as the suspected trigger for the killing.Police said examination of the complaint, video and technical evidence led to the arrest of five accused: Ramu and Ajay of Jhalania, Rohan of Bhirdana, Gaurav alias Gurpreet of Majra and Shankar.Teams from Sadar police station, CIA and the scene-of-crime unit had examined the spot after the murder. Further investigation is underway.
