Noida: Commuters travelling between Greater Noida West and Knowledge Park received major relief on Tuesday with the opening of a 1.6-km-long, eight-lane railway overbridge that promises to slash travel times and eliminate congestion on the 130m-wide arterial road.Built by the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), the rail overbridge connects Makoda and Tilapta villages and is expected to ease congestion on a key route linking Gaur Chowk with sectors like Zeta 1, Eta 1 and Delta 1.“The commute from Gaur Chowk to the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) office used to take 35 to 40 minutes. Now, it takes just 20 to 25 minutes of smooth travel,” said Manish Kumar, a resident of Supertech Eco Village.Work on the project began in 2020 — during the development of the Dadri region — with an initial deadline of 2022, but construction faced delays due to the Covid pandemic. The overbridge is now fully operational, with all signage and road markings in place.“Greater Noida West is home to a large number of residential societies. This road is an important connection for people travelling to the Greater Noida Authority office, Surajpur court complex and various govt and police offices. However, the 130m road was in poor condition. The overbridge will allow commuters to travel without disruption,” Kumar added.Officials said they are also focusing on resolving the waterlogging issues at the underpass beneath the overbridge. In recent years, the underpass flooded frequently during showers, leaving vehicles stranded and causing prolonged traffic congestion.“The overbridge offers a strong alternative route to bypass bottleneck congestion, easing the commute through several industrial and residential areas,” said Prabhat Shankar, senior manager at the Greater Noida Authority.GNIDA CEO Ravi Kumar NG said that a new U-turn is also being developed on the road near the Tilapta roundabout.
