BengaluruThe BJP central leadership, unable to fathom the cross voting which occurred in Karnataka during the recently concluded legislative council elections, pulled up the state unit for the embarrassment. On Tuesday morning, the leadership including state president B Y Vijayendra, opposition leader R Ashoka and Council election agent for the party, MLC N Ravi Kumar made an oral submission to the party national president Nitin Nabin over the entire sequence of events. At the meeting, it is said that Nabin pulled up the state unit for its lack of awareness on the possibility of cross voting and questioned as to why meetings were not held with the legislators before the voting. To this, sources said the state unit responded and countered that they had in fact held night long meetings with the MLAs, a day prior to the voting, and once again in the morning before voting began.Nabin also questioned whether the state unit had suspicions on anyone, to which the state leadership responded in the positive and sought time for it to prepare a detailed report and hand it to him.“He has told the state leadership that it should continue with its fact finding mission and submit a report at the earliest while he and the national leadership will also conduct an independent investigation into the matter,” said people aware of the meeting.Earlier, Vijayendra and Ashoka spoke to the media and said Nabin has warned that stringent action will be initiated against those who have betrayed the party.Vijayendra said the national president has also given certain suggestions to strengthen the BJP in Karnataka.Meanwhile, Ashoka said the central leadership already had certain information on those who had cross voted and that action will be initiated at the right time.Ends
