Repeat offender nabbed with MD drugs worth Rs 90,000 in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: A 26-year-old man from Paldi was arrested for allegedly possessing nearly nine grams of mephedrone (MD), police said on Monday.Acting on specific inputs, a crime branch team intercepted Azim Momin near Mahalaxmi Crossroads, in front of Pratiksha Apartment and close to Chhota Shahi Kabristan in Paldi. During the search, officers recovered 8.9g of mephedrone valued at Rs 89,700.Police also seized a mobile phone worth Rs 5,000, a RuPay card and a moped worth Rs 40,000, taking the total value of the seized property to Rs 1.34 lakh. A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Police records show that Momin is a repeat offender. He was previously booked in an NDPS case by Bavla police in 2022 and was also arrested by the crime branch in an Arms Act case in 2025.During preliminary questioning, Momin allegedly disclosed that he had been sourcing the synthetic narcotic from a supplier identified as Furkan Pathan, a resident of the Mirzapur-Shahpur area, for the past two months. Investigators suspect that the accused was distributing the contraband to a network of retail consumers across Ahmedabad.Crime branch officials said efforts are now focused on tracing the supply chain and identifying other persons involved in the distribution network. The arrest is expected to help investigators uncover links between local peddlers and larger narcotics suppliers operating in the city.
