Families of 46 disaster victims receive Rs1.8cr relief in Gkp

Gorakhpur: Acting on the directions of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the district administration has provided financial assistance of Rs 1.84 crore to the families of 46 people, who lost their lives in various disasters during the current financial year 2026-27.District magistrate Deepak Meena said the relief amount was disbursed till June 17 under the state govt’s disaster assistance scheme. The victims died in incidents, including drowning, snakebite, fire accidents, lightning strikes, storms and animal attacks.According to officials, drowning accounted for the highest number of fatalities, with 37 deaths reported in rivers and ponds. Three people died in fire-related incidents, two each due to snakebite and lightning strikes, while one person each died in a storm-related incident and an animal attack.Under the scheme, the next of kin of each deceased person is entitled to Rs 4 lakh as compensation. The administration said all eligible cases were processed promptly and financial assistance was provided without delay.The DM said the administration has been ensuring strict implementation of the chief minister’s directive to provide immediate relief to disaster-affected families. Revenue and administrative teams are dispatched immediately after receiving information about an incident to complete assessments and facilitate timely assistance.Officials said compensation was released within four days of death in 23 cases, while beneficiaries in the remaining cases received assistance within 7 to 10 days.
