Ludhiana: A brief morning drizzle and lingering cloud cover brought temporary respite to northern India’s ongoing summer heat, pushing daytime temperatures in Ludhiana nearly two degrees below the seasonal average on Friday.The unexpected morning shower left a trace amount of rainfall, dropping the city’s maximum temperature to 35°C — 1.8 degrees below normal and 2.2 degrees cooler than Thursday. Overnight temperatures held steady at 26°C, slightly above the seasonal benchmark but cooler than earlier in the week.Local meteorologists predict the mild conditions will be short-lived, forecasting a pattern change over the coming week.While a partly cloudy sky will linger over the next three days, an impending high-pressure system is expected to clear the skies, halting all rainfall activity.Forecasters warn that daytime temperatures will rapidly climb back above normal over the next five to six days, while overnight lows will hover between 25 and 27°C.Despite the looming heatwave, residents welcomed the brief reprieve, which temporarily lowered high power demands from fans and air conditioning units.“The drizzle may have been brief, but it made a noticeable difference to the weather,” Chandigarh Road resident Naveen Kumar said. “The fall in day temperature brought relief from the heat and made outdoor activities much more comfortable. Such pleasant weather is a welcome change during the summer months.”Homemakers also noted an immediate impact on their daily routines and household energy consumption.“The drizzle cooled the surroundings and reduced the need for fans and air-conditioners during the day,” local resident Anita said. “It was nice to see children spending time outdoors and family members enjoying the fresh breeze. Even a drizzle can make a big difference during the summer season.”
