Elevate only advocates from Telangana as judges, demands association
Even after formation of a separate high court for Telangana, advocates from Andhra Pradesh are being elevated as judges, depriving local advocates the opportunity to serve as judges, the association said

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court Advocates’ Association held a protest at the high court on Wednesday, demanding that only practising advocates of Telangana origin be considered for elevation as judges to the Telangana high court by following social justice norms and by giving proper representation to all sections. Over 100 advocates from the association, led by president S Surender Reddy, staged a protest during the lunch break.Holding placards and raising slogans, association secretary K Niranjan Reddy, vice-president DL Pandu, joint secretary Pulipalupula Krishna Keerthana, cultural secretary K Vishnuvardhan and treasurer Banoth Balaji, and senior counsel Gandra Mohan Rao, V Raghunath, Sharath Kumar, B Rachna Reddy and Chikkudu Prabhakar, among several others, participated in the protest.The protest was held in continuation of a unanimous resolution passed by the association on June 15 requesting the Supreme Court and high court collegiums, President of India, Union law ministry to consider Telangana-origin advocates for elevation to the bench.The members alleged that even after the formation of a separate high court of Telangana, advocates of AP origin are still being elevated as judges of the Telangana HC, which they said was denying advocates of Telangana origin the opportunity to serve as judges.
