Rowdy data revised, Bengaluru tops list, not Kalaburagi

Bengaluru: Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police M A Saleem Wednesday said the data presented by senior officers during the chief minister’s first review meeting recently on rowdy activity was incorrect, reacting to a TOI report that suggested Kalaburagi topped the state in the number of rowdy sheeters.According to revised figures from the home department, Karnataka has 39,698 rowdy sheeters, of whom 42% are classified as active. Saleem said Bengaluru city accounts for the highest number of active rowdies at 6,210, followed by Kalaburagi (1,475), Ramanagara (952), Hassan (883) and Tumakuru (856).The lowest numbers were recorded in Dharwad (109), Uttara Kannada (130), Bengaluru district (139), Chamarajanagar (150), Kalaburagi city (151) and Udupi (153). Saleem said conventional physical crimes were declining while cybercrimes were becoming increasingly common.
