Two arrested for ration items’ theft, trader alleges police assault during probe in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: Two persons who stole goods from a ration depot in Garhi village were arrested on Monday. Meanwhile, an inquiry was initiated into allegations of misconduct and assault levelled against police by a local trader, whose brother was allegedly involved in the case.The accused, Ajay and Sahil, told police the stolen items — 240 bottles of mustard oil and two sacks of sugar weighing 50 kg each — were purchased by one Pawan Saini, brother of trader Satish Saini. While Pawan fled, Satish later accused police of misconduct and issuing threats to his family. He alleged that police, along with others, damaged belongings at his house, assaulted his brother and misbehaved with family members.A police spokesperson said, “The inquiry has been handed over to ACP West.” According to police, a complaint was received at Sector 93 police post under the jurisdiction of Sector 10 police station alleging that on the night of June 11, four people — Ajay, Sahil, Rahul and Daksh, all residents of Garhi village — broke the lock of the depot, which functions within India’s public distribution system (PDS), and stole oil and sugar. A case was registered under relevant sections at Sector 10 police station. The police arrested Ajay and Sahil on June 15.Police said while the person concerned fled, Saini alleged that police forcibly entered his house on June 15 evening and threatened him and his family.
