Ahmedabad: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday urged chemical and pharmaceutical companies to partner with law enforcement agencies to curb the diversion of precursor and essential chemicals used in illicit narcotics, psychotropic and emerging synthetic drug production. At a conference with 250 participants from the department and industry, NCB director general Anurag Garg released a voluntary code of conduct (VCC) for the industry to promote responsible stewardship, supply chain integrity, and the early detection and reporting of suspicious transactions.Garg said enforcement alone is insufficient and called on manufacturers, importers, exporters, distributors, transporters and traders to flag unusual orders, concealed end use, abnormal consumption, and other diversion indicators. The VCC covers both notified controlled substances and other chemicals with misuse potential. Industry representatives welcomed the initiative, shared best practices and sought more such conferences nationwide.
