Noida: A Meta alert saved the life of a 24-year-old man in the Jewar area. Gautam Budh Nagar police rescued the youth, who was trying to die by suicide, after Meta shared the information with the Lucknow police headquarters.Having consumed an excessive quantity of sleeping pills after a woman spurned his marriage proposal, the youth, a labourer, posted a video on Instagram, saying, “This is my last video, who knows whether I will be there or not.”A senior police officer said that at 12.12am on Friday, the alert was received via email by the social media centre located at the headquarters of the director general of police from Meta. Taking immediate cognisance of the alert, the relevant information and location were shared with the media cell of the commissionerate, Gautam Budh Nagar. GB Nagar police commissioner Lakshmi Singh was informed too. Subsequently, necessary directions were given to Jewar officials.“Jewar police station personnel reached the young man’s house within just five minutes. Police woke up the young man’s father, informed him about the incident and reached the young man’s room along with the family members, where he was found lying unconscious on his bed,” an officer said. Police, along with the family members and neighbours, took the young man to the nearby hospital. Later, he was discharged.“The young man told police that he fell in love with the woman, who rejected his marriage proposal, after which he became extremely distressed. Following this, he took the step,” an officer in the media cell added. “The step was taken under Crisis Intervention Collaboration 2022 between Meta and UP Police,” a statement said.
