Ludhiana: Workers protest over low wages

Ludhiana: Karkhana Mazdoor Union Punjab and Textile Hosiery Kamagar Union Punjab carried out a protest at Samrala Chowk today in support of demonstrations by labour unions nationwide demanding higher wages, better facilities, and rights. Gathering under a flyover, they held a protest march and raised slogans against the government. They demanded that workers across all sectors and skill levels be paid a minimum monthly wage of ₹26,000. Lakhwinder Singh, president of Karkhana Mazdoor Union, emphasized that workers must unite for their demands nationwide. He urged the government to listen and improve salaries, wages, and facilities. Expressing solidarity with protests in other regions, workers vented ire against the treatment of labourers in other states. Workers added that while they receive insufficient wages amid rising inflation, they are forced into long hours and threatened with termination if they refuse overtime. Some reported working all seven days without additional payment.
