TNNLudhiana: Thieves broke into a farmer’s house in Bonkar village, under Koom Kalan police station, and fled with gold and silver jewellery after allegedly locking the sleeping couple inside their room.Farmer Nirmal Singh said his house is located in the fields and as his children are living abroad, he and his wife are the only ones staying there. He added that they were asleep in their room on Sunday night while the air conditioner was running.As per the farmer, the thieves allegedly broke the grill of a storeroom adjoining the house and entered the premises. He added that they first locked them their room.The victim claimed that the thieves then searched a trunk kept in the storeroom and allegedly stole around 5-6 tolas of gold and 12-15 tolas of silver jewellery.According to the farmer, the thieves entered the house after 1 am and when they woke up in the early morning and tried to open the door, they found it locked from outside. He somehow managed to break the latch and come out, only to find the belongings in the adjoining storeroom scattered and the jewellery missing from the trunk.He immediately informed the Koom Kalan police about the incident, following which police officials reached the spot and launched an investigation.Sources said CCTV footage showed the thieves arriving at the house, and police is examining the footage as part of the ongoing investigation.Meanwhile, three days ago, thieves had struck at a house in Sahbazpur village after cutting the electricity supply of the house and had decamped with cash and jewellery from there.
