Noida: A 45-year-old carpenter was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stabbing his partner’s mother to death. The accused and his partner, a 26-year-old man, were in a romantic relationship for the past year. When the mother opposed the relationship, the accused murdered her in a fit of rage.According to ADCP (Noida) Manisha Singh, police received information via the 112 emergency helpline on Wednesday that a woman was found stabbed to death in Sarfabad in Sector 113. Neighbours found the body after spotting blood near her room and called the cops.The woman was identified as Phooljahan, 50, a resident of Sarfabad. She lived with her son Mohsin. Police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Police scoured CCTV footage to trace the accused.Mohd Shafiq alias Javed, who also lived in the area, was arrested from near Tivoli farmhouse on Thursday. A knife used in the crime and Phooljahan’s phone were seized from his possession.Police said Shafiq took on Mohsin as an apprentice a year ago, and the two entered a romantic relationship soon after. When Phooljahan found out about their relationship, she allegedly opposed it. Shafiq and Mohsin subsequently hatched a plan for Mohsin to marry Shafiq’s niece.However, when Shafiq visited Phooljahan with the proposal on Wednesday, she opposed the match as well. Enraged, he allegedly stabbed her in the throat, abdomen and chest before fleeing the scene.An FIR has been registered against Shafiq under BNS Section 103(1) (murder) and sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act.
