Noida: Noida, founded on April 17, 1976, turned 50 on Friday, but its golden jubilee celebrations were scaled down sharply after the recent workers’ unrest. Noida Authority had planned to inaugurate its administrative building and several other projects to mark the occasion, but the programmes have now been postponed. The anniversary was instead observed in a subdued manner, with only a ceremonial cake-cutting and havan marking the day at the Sector 6 office.Originally, the Authority was set to commemorate its golden jubilee with a series of programmes, including the inauguration of a clock tower near GIP Mall and several development projects across the city. The postponed projects and events are likely to be rescheduled at a later date, officials said.Spread over 20,316 hectares, Noida has evolved into a major industrial and residential hub. The city provides direct employment to around 5 lakh industrial workers and is a significant contributor to govt revenues, with products manufactured here catering to both domestic and international markets.The upcoming Noida International Airport is expected to further accelerate industrial growth in the region by improving global connectivity and enhancing logistics efficiency, officials added.
