Kota: A 42-year-old former councillor of Kota Municipal Corporation was killed after a dumper ran over her while she was riding pillion on a scooter with her husband Wednesday morning. The accident occurred around 10am near Jawahar Nagar Circle, under the jurisdiction of the Dadabari police station.Renu Narwala, a Congress councillor from the now-defunct KMC North Ward 67 in 2020 and a resident of Harijan Basti in Nayapura, was on her way to the Khade Ganesh temple with her husband, Dhanraj, when the accident occurred. As the dumper passed by, the scooter allegedly slipped, causing both riders to fall. Renu was caught under the front tyre of the dumper, said police.It is alleged that the dumper driver attempted to flee the scene, but locals managed to nab him and hand him over to the police. The vehicle involved in the incident was also seized by the police.Renu and her husband were rushed to a private hospital and later referred to MBS Govt Hospital for further treatment. Renu was declared dead upon arrival, while her husband sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical care, police said.The accident sparked outrage among family members and the local community, leading to a protest that called for accountability and compensation due to alleged negligence on the part of the dumper driver. In response, local police registered a case against the driver. Dy SP Manish Sharma said Renu’s body was handed over to the family following a post-mortem examination.
