Abbas Ansari’s gunner suspended for leaving duty without permission

Varanasi: A police constable assigned to the personal security of Mau Sadar MLA Abbas Ansari — the son of late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari — has been suspended for allegedly leaving duty for personal work without informing senior officials.During his recent visit to Mau, armed constable Upendra Kumar, deployed as Abbas’s gunner, was absent while the MLA was touring his assembly constituency. Taking serious note, Mau SP Kamlesh Bahadur suspended the constable on charges of dereliction of duty and indiscipline.Mau ASP Anoop Kumar said an inquiry found that the gunner was negligent in security arrangements and left the district without permission, sanctioned leave, or informing the competent departmental authority. He said Kumar’s act amounted to a clear violation of service rules. After Kumar’s suspension, another gunner was deployed to ensure that the security arrangements of the MLA remain unaffected.Police officials warned all personnel assigned to VIP security duties that any negligence would not be tolerated.Abbas has remained in the spotlight during his recent visits to Mau and Ghazipur, where police in both districts served him notices for allegedly violating bail conditions imposed by the Supreme Court in a Gangsters Act case registered against him in Chitrakoot.
