Girls protest at MMMUT after prof enters hostel, probe panel formed

Gorakhpur: Tension gripped Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology on Wednesday after a group of girl students staged a protest, alleging that a male professor had entered their hostel premises unauthorized. The protest, which lasted nearly four hours, saw many students gather at the main gate, raise slogans, and accuse the professor of knocking on their doors while they were inside in casual attire. The situation escalated until the university administration intervened and assured action.Vice-Chancellor JP Saini reached the spot along with senior officials and held discussions with the agitating students. He assured them that appropriate action would be taken based on a formal inquiry.According to sources, students had been instructed to attend an academic event in the city, but some were unwilling to participate. Acting on information from the women’s warden, a professor holding an administrative role reportedly entered the hostel around 1:45 pm, accompanied by the warden and security staff.Students alleged that the professor knocked on their doors and pressured them to attend the event, which triggered anger among residents. As the protest intensified, DM Deepak Meena and the SSP reached the campus around 9 pm. A meeting with over 100 students was held, where officials heard their grievances in detail. After nearly two hours of talks, the students dispersed following assurances of a fair probe. The vice-chancellor later constituted an inquiry committee, directing it to submit a report within a week. In a parallel move, the hostel warden and superintendent concerned have been replaced. The district magistrate maintained that it was not a protest but a grievance redressal exercise. “Students have been assured a fair inquiry, and action will follow based on the findings,” he said.regardsArjumand Bano
