Delhi woman, 3 Africans arrested, Rs 17cr worth MDMA seized in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Police busted an international drug-peddling network with the arrest of eight persons, including three foreigners, and seizure of 17kg of MDMA valued at Rs 17 crore.Police said the racket was allegedly masterminded by Reena Yadav alias Bapi, 50, who was released from a Delhi jail last year after serving 13 years in a criminal conspiracy case.According to police, the Delhi woman’s associates Dheeraj and Debashish Banerjee alias Debu were involved in collecting and transporting the contraband before handing it over to Bengaluru-based operatives through foreign women acting as couriers.The others arrested are Mohammed Masoor P and Abdul Samad, both natives of Dakshina Kannada who were staying in a rented accommodation in Bengaluru, and three foreigners — Obianuju Rita from Nigeria, Margereth Linginiko Chale from Tanzania and Danfa Gerald from Senegal.Police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said investigation began after Hebbal police received a tip-off on May 11 about drug sale near an apartment in Unnathi Layout, Anandnagar.Hebbal police got to know that three persons were allegedly selling MDMA from a car near the apartment. Deputy commissioner of police (north division) BS Nemagoud led the operation, the top cop said.— Nyasa Gupta
