Pune: A four-year-old boy died and his mother was injured after a compact SUV driven by a drunk man hit their scooter in the Khadakwasla area around 5.30pm on Saturday.Yashraj’s father Nilesh Kamble, who was riding the scooter, escaped without injuries. The boy’s injured mother was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.Senior inspector Atul Bhos of Nanded City police told TOI, “We have arrested the SUV driver, Amol Gegade (32), who hails from Shrigonda in Ahilyanagar and is currently residing in Bhosari. He works with an industrial unit. A medical test confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.”He added: “Gegade and his friend were going to Sinhagad Fort for an outing, while the Kamble family was travelling to a temple near Donje village to offer prayers.”In another accident in the Khadakwasla area on Friday night, a drunk car driver allegedly hit an autorickshaw and a motorcycle. Autorickshaw driver Ananta Kisan Jadhav (44) of Donje village suffered serious injuries and has been hospitalised. The motorcycle rider suffered minor injuries.Police have registered a case against the 46-year-old car driver from Bibvewadi and served him a notice asking him to cooperate with the investigation.Police said the driver had attended a party in the Khadakwasla area and was heading towards Swargate when his car hit the two vehicles.
