Protestors block Pune-Solapur highway at Bhigwan amid tension over abduction of woman (21)/ Saumya() Angry protestors blocked the Pune-Solapur highway at Bhigwan in Indapur taluka, about 100km from the city, on Tuesday night amid tension over the abduction of a 21-year-old woman earlier the same afternoon by three men hailing from a different community. The blockade continued for more than 30 minutes before the police managed to convince the protestors to clear the highway. Police said the woman, whose marriage is scheduled for Feb 22, was returning home from shopping when two of the three men threw chilli powder into the eyes of her mother and brother, who were accompanying her, and abducted her sometime between 3.30pm and 4pm. The third person stood nearby. The suspects reside in the neighbourhood of the woman’s family and are known to each other, police added. Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, Sandeep Singh Gill, said, “We have identified the three men. 60-year-old woman killed by son in Ahilyanagar() A 33-year-old man killed his 60-year-old mother for an unknown reason on Tuesday afternoon in the Savedi area of Ahilyanagar district under the Tofkhana police station. The police arrested the man, but he did not reveal why he killed his widowed mother, Baby Gavare. The police said that the mother and son Suhas stayed in a rented room in the Navlenagar area of Savedi for the past few years. The woman took up domestic work in other people’s houses to earn a living. At around 2 pm, people in Navlenagar started hearing crying sounds from Gavare’s house, after which they called the police. When the police reached the spot, they found that Suhas was playing with a tin box inside the house, which was locked from the inside, while the blood-soaked body of Baby Gavare lay in the room. Suhas had killed his mother with the sharp instrument used for cutting raw mangoes for making pickles. After much effort, the police managed to break open the door and apprehend Suhas. PI Jagdish Bhambal said that, on the complaint lodged by the married daughter of Baby Gaware, they registered a case of murder against Suhas Gavare. “Suhas did not tell anything so far about what made him kill his mother. He keeps to himself and does not speak to anyone. He has done his education till HSC and in the past taken up temporary works. The police are investigating the case,” said Bhambal. // Santosh
