Herd of three jumbos razes houses, uproots trees & damages paddy in Bodoland hamlet

Dhubri: A herd of three elephants razed several houses and damaged crops in the Binnyaguri village under Parbatjhara forest division of The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region.They jumbos were spotted on Saturday at the fringe of the forest even after wreaking havoc in the village.The Bannyaguri forest area comes under the Rupsi Range Office. On receiving information of the herd causing damage in the village, range officer Rihung Brahma rushed to the spot. With the help of forest beat office staff members, they were able to stray the elephants away from the village after a great amount of effort and time.“By the time we reached the spot, the herd had already razed several houses to the ground; uprooted several coconut, betel nut and banana trees and eaten up paddy stocked in the houses. We have shifted the villagers to another village” , Brahma added.Houses belonging to locals Nikhal Marak, Radhika Marak, Biswasri Brahma and Narendra Changma were completely damaged, while damage to crops are is assessed, Brahma added.
