Locals burst crackers after CI Anjaneyulu was caught in ACB case

Hyderabad: Officials of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested Keesara police station circle inspector A Anjaneyulu and sub-inspector D Gnanender Reddy after they allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. It was while performing Ganesh bandobust duties that the SI was caught near Keesara lake.The trap was laid by ACB sleuths at 12 am on Thursday. The complainant was earlier booked by Keesara police in a case of illegal diversion of PDS rice. The two policemen allegedly demanded and accepted Rs 5 lakh from a complainant for doing an official favour.When the SI was accepting the cash inside a car, the waiting ACB sleuths swung into action and nabbed. However, he attempted to escape by disembarking from the car and then running from the spot. ACB officials made a chase and caught him. Gnanender Reddy was brought to Keesara police station, where his confession statement was taken. Since ACB officials had information that Anjaneyulu was behind the conspiracy, he was also taken into custody. On Thursday, locals gathered near Keesara police station and celebrated the development by bursting crackers and recalled the alleged unfair practices of Anjaneyulu.For granting station bail and at the same time not to harass the complainant and his friend, the two policemen demanded bribe,’’ ACB officials said.It was sub-inspector D Gnanender Reddy who accepted Rs 5 lakh allegedly at the behest of the inspector.It is learnt that the inspector initially demanded Rs 10 lakh as a bribe from the complainant. The inspector and SI also started harassing the complainant to supply biryani, soft drinks and others. Unable to face the harassment further, the complainant approached ACB and lodged a complaint. As per the instructions of the SI, when the cash was given by the complainant, the SI then realised that it was a trap. Gnanender made a vain bid to escape from the spot, but he was caught.
