Bengaluru: Karnataka State Coir Development Corporation Ltd (KSCDCL) will open its first showroom outside the state in Jaipur Saturday, marking a key step in its plans to expand and promote eco-friendly coir products, including Dutch mats. The outlet, set up in collaboration with a regional distributor, will stock around 6,000 Dutch mats besides other products, chairman Nataraj Janakiram said. The first consignment was flagged off by chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh at Vidhana Soudha last week and has reached Jaipur. Janakiram said the move is part of a broader expansion strategy, and the firm plans to open showrooms in other states. The corporation has also appointed stockists and carrying and forwarding agents in Rajasthan, Delhi and Gujarat. KSCDCL has recorded steady growth in recent years, with turnover rising from Rs 6.8 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 21.7 crore in 2025-26. It has set a target of achieving Rs 100 crore in 2026–27. “It will not be a tough task if govt departments procure coir products from the corporation,” Janakiram said. To strengthen sales, Janakiram has written to chief minister Siddaramaiah seeking directions to govt departments and district administrations to procure coir products. In one letter, he urged the muzrai department to supply coir mats to temples, noting that granite flooring can be difficult for devotees walking barefoot. He suggested that mats be laid across temple premises. He said purchases from the corporation would support financial growth and generate rural employment. Established in 1985, KSCDCL manufactures products such as mats, ropes, geo-textiles and mattresses from coconut husk. It has 35 production units across Karnataka. The corporation plays a significant role in providing jobs in rural areas, especially for women. As part of its outreach efforts, KSCDCL has launched a new website and is preparing to roll out an e-commerce platform to widen its market access.
