Ahmedabad: A State Reserve Police (SRP) jawan on duty at the New State Secretariat in Gandhinagar allegedly committed suicide in the wee hours of Tuesday. He was found hanging from a tree behind Gate No. 3 where he was posted.Inspector A G Solanki from Sector 7 police said that the deceased, Rajendrasinh Gohil, 49, was attached with SRP Group-9 in Vadodara and hailed from Bhavnagar district. Gohil took over his shift around midnight. The suicide is believed to have occurred late on Monday night. “We have registered a case of accidental death,” he said.“In the morning, a fellow jawan did not find Gohil at the gate and went looking. Gohil was found hanging by a plastic rope from a tree just behind the gate,” cops said. A team from Sector 7 Police reached the spot and brought the body down. The body was sent to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital for postmortem. Police are recording statements of colleagues and family members. Officials said the exact cause behind the suicide is yet to be determined, as no note has been recovered so far.Authorities are probing all possible angles, including personal and professional distress. The incident, which occurred within a high-security govt complex, is also being examined from a forensic perspective. Cops are also scanning the CCTV footage to know the exact time when he left his security cabin.
