Pune: A 34-year-old woman whose highly decomposed body was found in a housing society in Gahunje on Wednesday night rarely interacted with her neighbours and was living alone, Pimpri Chinchwad police said on Friday.Police recorded statements of the woman’s neighbours, domestic help and the society’s watchman. “The woman was living alone,” senior police inspector Devendra Chavan of the Shirgaon police told TOI.A resident of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the woman was pursuing an MBA in UK. She returned to India in Aug this year without informing her parents and had been staying in a rented flat in the Gahunje society. She continued to communicate with her parents through a mobile messaging app, making them believe she was still in London. When her family could not contact her after Oct 24, they approached one of her friends in UK and learned that she had left the country in Aug. Her father then lodged a complaint with the Osmanpura police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Using the woman’s bank transaction details, police traced her location to Gahunje, where her body was subsequently found.Inspector Chavan said the postmortem had been conducted and viscera samples preserved for chemical analysis. “The cause of her death can be ascertained after the chemical analysis report is received,” he said. The officer said neighbours told investigators that the woman rarely interacted with other society members. “She had also told her domestic help recently that she was leaving the flat and asked her to stop coming for work,” he said. The watchman told police that he occasionally saw the woman walking around the society premises. “He also told us that most of her visitors were delivery partners,” Chavan said.
